From the Ocean to Plate - Cook your Catch at Marina Bar & Grill

I got a sweet little half day charter in today with Kathy, Coleman and Sadie from California.

Kathy was over for a world spearfishing comp and had spent plenty of time in the water in NZ already. Today was about sharing some fishing time with the rest of the family. We picked a few kingfish up at King Rock, then some snapper out wide at the Aldermen Islands.

A last little slow troll around Paku, we were just about to wind up and Kathy started hollering! “It’s huge!!! OMG it just ate by bait at the boat!” A big kingfish had come in and scoffed her bait right at the boat as we were pulling lines in for the day! She pulled the fish of the day out of 4m of water straight off Tairua Beach! It pulled HARD!

The fam were super keen to have their catch cooked up that night, and we teed it up with local restaurant Marina Bar and Grill for them…here is what they had to say!

“We had fresh snapper and kingfish prepared 3 different ways - cooked brilliantly by the chef there. 2 types of hamachi sashimi, tempura snapper and pan fried snapper with skin served on potato and veggies. SO GOOD!!! Thanks again for setting us up with the fish - we are already looking forward to coming back next year...Cheers Kathy (California,US)”
